Frequently Asked Questions

At Timberland we service and repair most types of outdoor gas-powered equipment for both residential and commercial users. We specialize in Stihl, Husqvarna, Honda, Briggs, Kawasaki, Kohler, and Toro powered products.
You need a number of things to be working for your engine to run right. At a minimum you need new, clean fuel and fuel filter, clean air intake and air filter, properly functioning electrical system and spark plug(s) and finally good engine compression. Check these items first if you are able to, repair or replace as necessary. If the problem remains then bring it in to us for a full service. We will get it back to you in great running condition – and our work is guaranteed!
It could be as simple as low air pressure in your tires. Check that all tire pressures are set as per the owner’s manual. If that doesn’t fix the problem, you may need to bring it in for a service.
When you look at a properly sharpened chain, the teeth will be uniform, shiny, smooth, and depending on the type of chain, pointed. When you are using a properly sharpened chain the saw will cut straight, smoothly, and spit out chips and not sawdust. You should also feel the saw being pulled into the wood as the chain “digs in”. Using a chainsaw with a dull chain is dangerous and will cause engine damage if used for any length of time.
You can sharpen your own chain and we have some excellent kits that can help you do this correctly, and we will even show you how. In fact, you should touch-up your chain in the field after every couple tanks of fuel. More often if you’re cutting dirty wood or contacting any nails or the ground while using your saw.
It’s probably a dull chain. Anytime you are cutting near the ground and the chain touches rocks or dirt and even just the dirt in the bark of trees while bucking will dull your chain. We offer professional chain sharpening services. Bring your chains to us by Thursday afternoon and they will be ready by Friday at 3:00.
Two-cycle engines like those used in trimmers, chainsaws, and other outdoor power equipment run on a mixture of 2-cycle engine oil and premium gas. The exact fuel-to-oil mixture varies but is usually around 50:1. Using fuel that is not mixed correctly can cause serious damage to your engine and will void your warranty. If you mix your own fuel, be sure to follow the manufacturers recommendations.
If you are using your blower to clear snow in the winter months, you may have accumulated some carb ice while using the blower. You will need to take the unit someplace warm so that the carb ice can melt. Then check to make sure that you have selected the correct position for the warm air toggle as per the owner’s manual.
Service your chainsaw every 3-5 years if you are using your chainsaw for small periods of time on a regular basis.

More frequent and/or harder use may require more frequent servicing.

Bring your chainsaw to Timberland Supply and we will adjust and/or repair anything that it needs - and ensure that all the safety related components are functioning as they should.

Timberland is the largest authorized Husqvarna warranty and repair center in Alberta for all commercial and residential gas powered Zero-Turn Mowers, Garden Tractors, Chainsaws, Lawnmowers, Trimmers, Power Cutters, Leaf Blowers and Snow Blowers. Regardless of where you purchased your Husqvarna equipment, we can almost always perform repairs and provide no-cost warranty if the repair is warrantable as per the manufacture’s guidelines. Some Husqvarna branded equipment is not covered by Husqvarna warranty, but we will let you know if that is the case. Call or visit us for details.
Absolutely not and in fact, there are several options for chains and guide bars, even for the same make and model saw. Between Stihl, Husqvarna, and the dozen or so other brands, there are literally hundreds of combinations of chain length, pitch, gauge and chain and bar type. There is very limited commonality, and a guide bar and chain for one manufacturer’s chainsaw won’t typically work on another manufacturer’s chainsaw (there are a couple exceptions to this rule). The good news is that we are here to help and if you can provide the model of your saw and the length of the bar, then we can get you going even if it means cutting you a custom chain while you wait. If you aren’t 100% sure then always bring us the old bar and chain or entire saw and we will figure it out.
If the chain is damaged or has been improperly sharpened or if the guide bar is damaged or worn, the chainsaw will never cut straight. When this happens, you will need to bring the saw to have the chain properly sharpened or you may need a new guide bar and chain.
Absolutely! Bring it to us by Thursday and we will have it ready for pick up by Friday afternoon of that same week.
With all Stihl and Husqvarna 2-stroke and 4-mix engines, you should always use Stihl or Husqvarna brand mix-oils with fresh premium low ethanol, fuels mixed as per the owner’s manual (typically 50:1). Stihl, Husqvarna and Aspen also make a long-lasting synthetic fuel that is an excellent but somewhat more expensive alternative.
Unless you are using a fully synthetic 2-cycle or 4-cycle fuel, we always recommend that you drain all your fuel systems when you are storing equipment at the end of the season or for extended periods of time. **

All of the high quality 2-cycle mix oils we sell have a fuel stabilizer additive that will give you extended fuel life – usually about 3 months.

If you are not comfortable draining your own fuel then bring it to us for an end-of-season service. We will go over your unit and service it as required. We will also clean the fuel system and fill it with fully synthetic fuel that will allow you to store it for up to two years.

**Consult the owners manual for guidance.

I own a very busy professional tree service company, and I operate lots of different types of equipment including chainsaws, blowers, lawnmowers, hedge trimmers, and weed whippers. 48 pieces of equipment both gas and electric.

Timberland is my go to shop for purchasing, service, and accessories. Paul, Guntis, Quinn and Alison are all top notch Customer Service pros. Maris is one of the best Techs in Edmonton, and he modifies and services all my equipment in the RARE event that something breaks. He gets me back up and running as fast as possible.

Dan runs a very professional shop, and does an excellent job making sure that he is stocked up on inventory, so when I need something they either have it, or can get it. He takes great pride in making sure that the people are safe when operating the equipment they sell.

On Saturday, I found myself in a bind—I needed to fix my Stihl weedeater before the long weekend. I called Timberland Supply and was fortunate to speak with Guntis, the Sales Manager. He informed me they were closed until Tuesday, but when I explained my situation, he didn't hesitate to help.
Even though he was only planning to be there for a few minutes, Guntis went out of his way to wait for me and sell me the parts I needed. His kindness and willingness to go the extra mile saved my weekend plans, and I’m incredibly grateful for the outstanding service.
If you’re looking for knowledgeable staff and truly exceptional customer service for your Stihl equipment, Timberland Supply is the place to go. Thanks again, Guntis!

I have had two of my bigger saws rebuilt here. Most recently a 40 year old husky that is my favourite saw and becoming increasingly difficult to source parts for! Very happy with the service and quality from the team at Timberland. Highly recommend and I will continue to make the journey across town to see them!
